Telangana ASHA, Anganwadi workers threaten to intensify statewide protests

Telangana ASHA and Anganwadi worker unions threatened to intensify statewide protests over pending demands on wages and benefits. They accused the government of using police force to curb protests and sought an inquiry into alleged assaults and action against police personnel.

Hyderabad: The unions representing ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activists) workers from various parts of Telangana on Thursday threatened to further intensify statewide protests if the State government continues to ignore their demands and utilises police force to curb their participation in protests by detaining their union leaders.

The CITU-affiliated union called upon all the 1 lakh Anganwadi and ASHA workers to prepare for militant struggle to break the State government’s restrictions and secure their wages and benefits.

“The State government must announce the fulfillment of pending promises to Anganwadis and ASHAs before the assembly session concludes and order an inquiry and take action against police personnel who denied permission to ASHA workers to protest at Dharna Chowk, assaulted workers, and caused injuries,” the union members, including Anganwadi union state president K Sunitha, General Secretary P Jayalakshmi, and ASHA union president P Jayalakshmi and General Secretary R Neeladevi, demanded.

They also demanded disciplinary action against Domalguda CI for orchestrating a 30-person police raid and spreading false propaganda labeling union leaders as Maoists and Naxalites.
