Telangana Assembly session from Monday: BRS to expose Congress government’s failures

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) is all geared up to confront the Congress government in the Assembly over its unfulfilled promises and governance failures, particularly in agriculture, tribal rights and rural development. BRS president and Opposition leader K Chandrashekhar Rao chaired a meeting of the Legislative Party with party MLAs and MLCs at his residence in Erravelli on Sunday, and discussed the party strategy in the Assembly session scheduled to commence from Monday. He asked the party legislators to attend the Assembly and participate in the debates, with complete information in their hand. He also wanted them to raise their voice on behalf of the people of Telangana and question the Congress government on its unfulfilled promises.

During a marathon three-hour-long meeting, Chandrashekhar Rao wanted the MLAs and MLCs to corner the State government on partial implementation of its election promises, particularly the loan waiver scheme for farmers. He also pointed out that the government did not provide Rythu Bandhu financial support, Rythu Bima insurance, did not open adequate procurement centres or give the promised bonuses. He also spoke on the new Telangana Thalli statue, stating those who had no knowledge of Telangana’s history or association with Telangana movement were trying to attack Telangana’s identity with their foolish decisions. He asserted that the BRS would question the government on behalf of the people.

Speaking to mediapersons after the meeting, BRS working president KT Rama Rao said the BRS would act as the voice of farmers in the legislature. “The Congress government betrayed farmers. Instead of delivering the electoral promises, the Congress government is insulting farmers by celebrating Praja Palana Vijayotsavalu marking one year of Congress rule,” he said.

On tribal and Dalit rights, Rama Rao criticised the Congress on the forcible land acquisitions and arrests of tribal farmers in Kodangal and Sangareddy for opposing the proposed Pharma Villages. “While 14,000 acres were already acquired for Pharma City, why is the government proposing to establish 20 Pharma Villages and displacing farmers?” he questioned. He demanded that the State government immediately release the imprisoned farmers as well as former BRS MLA Patnam Narender Reddy and cancel the project.

The deteriorating condition of Gurukul residential welfare schools, which provide education to underprivileged communities, will be another focal point. The BRS working president charged the Congress with neglecting Gurukuls, putting the future of Dalit and tribal students at risk. A detailed report on Gurukuls’ conditions, prepared by a BRS team led by former IPS officer RS Praveen Kumar as part of “Gurukula Bata”, was handed over to Chandrashekhar Rao and would be presented in the Assembly, with permission from the Speaker.

Further, the BRS plans to raise concerns over stalled rural development. Rama Rao said gram panchayats were in crisis due to unpaid bills and lack of funds for sanitation and other basic needs. He criticised the Congress for failing to release the second installment of Dalit Bandhu funds and neglecting key public issues like healthcare and education. The BRS would also question the government over the repeated violation of protocols and unnecessary detention on the opposition leaders including legislators.

“Every day, we will question the government in the Assembly on public issues and expose its failures,” Rama Rao said, promising to hold the Congress accountable for its six guarantees, 420 promises and numerous other declarations announced during elections. He vowed to fight for the rights of Telangana’s people, from farmers to marginalised communities, and ensure their voices are heard in the legislature.
