Telangana: Batik artist Balaiah no more
Born in Ibrahimpur near Siddipet, Balaiah won laurels for his unique capability in Batik painting and was also acclaimed internationally

Siddipet: Renowned Batik artist Yasala Balaiah passed away in Hyderabad on Wednesday morning. He was 81.
Born in Ibrahimpur near Siddipet, Balaiah won laurels for his unique capability in Batik painting and was also acclaimed internationally.
The renowned artist’s body is being shifted to Siddipet.
Batik artists use dyes as colour and it is an elaborate process of decorating the cloth which is then covered with wax followed by the dyeing process.
Balaiah was a close acquaintance of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao and was involved in designing the Telangana Talli statue. Honouring his work, the State government presented an award to him on State Formation day.
Finance Minister T Harish Rao condoled his death and said it was a great loss to Telangana. Noted writer Nandini Sidda Reddy and poet Desapathi Srinivas also expressed their condolences over the demise of Balaiah.
