Telangana BC Commission holds public meeting; asks stakeholders to participate in caste census

Nizamabad: The State Backward Classes Commission held a public hearings in Nizamabad on Tuesday to elicit the views of all stakeholders to prepare the ground for conduct of caste survey in the State.
The leaders from various communities belonging to the erstwhile Nizamabad district, including Kamareddy, participated in the public hearing and submitted their representations to a team headed by BC Commission chairman G Niranjan.
The National BC Welfare Association submitted a comprehensive report on the progress and welfare of BCs to the Commission. It requested that reservations and budgets should be allocated according to the population of BC in political, educational, employment, economic and social sectors.
The Commission chairman asked the association members to create awareness about the survey in every village of the erstwhile Nizamabad district so that every individual takes part in the enumeration.
After the enumeration, the reservations would be decided in proportion to population, Niranjan said, adding that the survey would be done scientifically so as to avoid issues.
The panel would collect opinions of all communities from across the State and make recommendations to the government on reservations to be allocated in the upcoming local body elections, he added.
The Commission will hold similar public hearings till November 13 covering all 33 districts in the State. The Commission will then submit all the details to the government, following which the socioeconomic, educational, employment, political and caste survey will be conducted.
About 80,000 enumerators and 10,000 supervisors would be involved in the survey to be conducted across the State. The deadline for submitting the data is December 9.
