Hyderabad: Telangana State Commission for Backward Classes plans to visit Tamil Nadu and Karnataka to study Socio-Economic-Educational and Employment Survey for the Backward Classes or Caste conducted in the two States.
This will be followed with visits to Maharashtra, Chattisgarh and Orissa where the caste survey is under progress. The decision to this effect was taken during a first internal meeting of the Commission chaired by its Chairman V Krishna Mohan Rao and other members here on Thursday.
The meeting was conducted in the wake of mandate issued by the State Government specifying tasks for the Commission. During the meeting, the members also discussed the ‘scientific methods’ to be adopted for collection of caste data in Telangana as it is mandatory to comply with ‘triple tests’ as laid down law of Supreme Court.
The purpose of these proposed visits to different States was to get firsthand experience, besides framing an own protocol for TSCBC for conducting the Caste survey. This bears significance as the Commission is designated to specify the proportion of reservation required to be provisioned.
The Commission also resolved to hold day-long workshops with subject experts and others, who were involved in collection of caste data. As a part of this exercise, the Commission received a Karnataka BC Commission delegation led by its Chairman and exchanged detailed technical notes.
