Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi Rajya Sabha MP and senior leader Vaddiraju Ravichandra on Saturday said the Congress government had insulted and deceived Backward Classes (BCs) by failing to implement its promised 42 percent reservation quota despite being in power for two years.

Speaking to the media, Ravichandra reminded that the Congress had pledged legal backing for 42 percent BC reservations during its election campaign but had since resorted to delays and deception.

He criticised the protest staged by INDIA bloc leaders at Jantar Mantar in Delhi as mere “drama,” stating that Rahul Gandhi had claimed that 42 percent reservations for BCs would only be possible if he became Prime Minister.

Ravichandra further alleged that the Congress issued a Government Order (GO) promising 42 percent reservations in local body elections as another act of deceit.

He highlighted that when BRS leaders KT Rama Rao and T. Harish Rao demanded ministerial posts for BCs, the previous BRS regime responded by appointing them, contrasting it with the current government’s approach.

Linking the issue to the Telangana Statehood movement, he said many had sacrificed their lives due to Congress’s past negligence. He pointed to the recent suicide of BC youth Sai Eshwar Chary as a tragic outcome of the government’s failure to fulfill promises, noting that Eshwar Chary took the extreme step out of frustration over the lack of action.

On local body elections, Ravichandra said that despite misuse of power by the Congress in many constituencies, BRS candidates secured victories in most affected areas. He accused the Congress of conducting an “unscientific” caste census that deliberately under-represented BCs.
