Telangana: BRS MLC Kavitha demands Congress govt to ensure Rs 15,000 MSP for turmeric crop

The BRS MLC sought to know the government's measures to safeguard the farmers, while turmeric prices dropped to Rs 9,000 per quintal

Hyderabad: With Nizamabad’s turmeric farmers reeling under plummeting prices and government apathy, BRS MLC K Kavitha on Tuesday demanded that the Congress government immediately intervene to ensure a Minimum Support Price (MSP) of Rs 15,000 per quintal as per electoral promises.

She sought to know the government’s measures to safeguard the farmers, while turmeric prices dropped to Rs 9,000 per quintal.


In a statement, Kavitha charged Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Congress Lok Sabha leader Rahul Gandhi with betraying farmers with false promises. She questioned why the government remained silent while turmeric prices failed to even touch Rs 9,000 per quintal.

“Is the government blind to the struggles of turmeric farmers? This is nothing short of fraud and deception against the farming community,” she lashed out.

Kavitha also took aim at BJP MP Dharmapuri Arvind and union Minister Bandi Sanjay, who had claimed credit for establishing a Turmeric Board in Nizamabad, yet failed to ensure better pricing.

“What happened to their tall claims of securing higher prices and ensuring more benefits for farmers?” she asked, slamming their failure to attend to farmers’ needs.

With farmers left in the lurch, she demanded that the State government immediately procure turmeric at Rs 15,000 per quintal, ensuring justice for the backbone of Telangana’s agrarian economy.
