Hyderabad: Opposition leader in Council S Madhusudhana Chari and BRS MLC K Kavitha, along with fellow party leaders, staged a protest outside the Telangana Legislative Council on Monday, demanding that the Congress government fulfill its election promise of providing scooters to girl students. They held the cardboard cutouts of scooters, and raised slogans against the government’s apathy.
Speaking to mediapersons, Kavitha said the Congress betrayed young women of Telangana and turned its back on them after assuring two-wheelers as part of the Congress party’s election promises. Targeting Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi who made the promise, Kavitha questioned, “Where are the scooties for young women above 18 years?”
She slammed the government for accumulating Rs 1.58 lakh crore debt but neglecting its commitments. “They failed to provide one tola gold promised under Kalyanamasthu and now they deprive scooties meant for girl students. If Congress is serious, it should deliver immediately,” she asserted. She also revealed that angry students are now writing postcards to Priyanka Gandhi, urging her to honour her word.
