Bhongir: Deploring the failure of the Congress government to operationalise the Nandanam Neera processing unit in Yadadri Bhongir district, which was fully established during the tenure of the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi, former Minister V Srinivas Goud said the government lacked a sincere approach to support traditional occupations and livelihoods.
He visited the unit on Sunday along with former Bhongir MLA Shekhar Reddy and former chairman of the Toddy Tappers Corporation Ravi Kumar Goud, and others. Speaking on the occasion, he said the initiative was aimed at promoting traditional occupations, particularly benefiting the Goud community engaged in toddy tapping. However, since the Congress government took power, the unit has been left non-operational, raising concerns among local workers.
He pointed out that even the Neera Cafe set up on Hyderabad’s Tank Bund was now facing threats of privatization, with alleged plans to lease it out to private players. He demanded the immediate cancellation of such tenders and urged the government to take responsibility for ensuring the prosperity of toddy tappers.
During the previous administration, the BRS government introduced the Neera policy, aiming to uplift toddy tapper workers and provide them with sustainable employment opportunities. Goud claimed that under Congress’s governance, traditional occupations were being dismantled, leading to worsening conditions for workers.
