Hyderabad: The State Cabinet on Sunday approved the State budget estimates for the financial year 2022-2023 during a meeting held at Pragati Bhavan here. The meeting was presided over by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao.

The budget session of the State Legislature which will commence from Monday, will begin without the customary address by Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan. While Finance Minister T Harish Rao will present the budget in the State Legislative Assembly at 11.30 am on Monday, Legislative Affairs Minister Vemula Prashanth Reddy will introduce it in the Legislative Council.

Sources said the State budget for 2022-23 is likely to be a massive one with at least 10-15 per cent increase over the budget of Rs 2.31 lakh crore presented for the financial year of 2021-22. Besides making huge allocations for the Dalit Bandhu programme, the government is expected to shower lot of gifts to the citizens of the State, notwithstanding the lack of support from the Centre.

During the Cabinet meeting, the Chief Minister is learnt to have asked all the Ministers as well as the officials to come to the Assembly with all information in order to give a strong reply to all the issues raised by the Opposition parties. He also wanted the Ministers to utilise the platform and explain to people about the ongoing welfare and development programmes in the State. He asked them to take the opportunity to expose the BJP-led Central government’s discrimination towards Telangana.
