Mancherial: Telangana cabinet gave its nod to construct the proposed Chennur Lift Irrigation Scheme (CLIS), which was envisaged to irrigate 90,000 acres of Chennur Assembly constituency and provide drinking water to 103 villages, spending Rs 1,658 crore. A decision to this effect was made by the cabinet of ministers which met in Hyderabad on Tuesday.

As many as 10 tmcs of water is going to be lifted from Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS) with the help of the scheme. The water lifted from Parvati barrage built across Godavri, would be used for irrigating 48,208 acres in Chennur, Kotapalli, and Bheemaram mandals, while 25,423 acres in Jaipur, and Mandamarri mandals. Similarly, water from Laxmi barrage would irrigate 16,370 acres of Kotapalli mandal.

Besides, 103 villages in Chennur, Kotapalli, Bheemaram, Mandamarri and Jaipur mandals would be provided with drinking water through the scheme. “Chennur Assembly segment which was deprived of irrigation and drinking water facilities would be able to make rapid strides in the agriculture sector soon,” Government Whip Balka Suman remarked, thanking Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao for granting the funds.

In the meantime, ranks and files of the TRS erupted into celebrations following the release of the funds by the cabinet. They gathered at important junctions and crossroads of Chennur, Mandamarri, Kotapalli, Bheemaram, Jaipur and Kyathanapalli and busted crackers. They distributed sweets among themselves. They hailed Balka Suman for playing a vital role in the government sanctioning funds for the scheme.
