Hyderabad: National Sports Day was celebrated across Telangana in a grand manner under the aegis of the Sports Authority of Telangana, commemorating the birth anniversary of legendary hockey player Major Dhyan Chand.
Various sports and related activities were organised at all 33 district headquarters and prominent sports venues in Hyderabad, including Gachibowli Stadium, LB Stadium, KVB Indoor Stadium, Saroornagar Indoor Stadium, Cycling Velodrome and Gymkhana Grounds.
At the Gachibowli Hockey Stadium, Telangana Sports Minister V. Srihari paid floral tributes to Major Dhyan Chand at his statue.
Sports Authority of Telangana Chairman Sivasena Reddy, Vice Chairman and Managing Director Dr A. Sonibala Devi, Arjuna Awardee and badminton player Gayatri Gopichand, badminton champion Treesa Jolly, Asian athlete Nandini Agasara, along with Sports Authority officials, athletes and coaches, participated in the programme and paid rich tributes to Major Dhyan Chand.
On the occasion, the Telangana Sports Authority felicitated prominent sportspersons from the State — Nandini Agasara, Gayatri Gopichand and Treesa Jolly — in recognition of their achievements and contributions to sports.
As part of the National Sports Day celebrations, the ‘Sundays on Cycling – Special Edition’ programme will be organised on Sunday at all 33 district headquarters and various stadiums under the Telangana Sports Authority in Hyderabad, encouraging regular physical activit
