Telangana: Chemical waste dumping sparks concern in Lingampally village

Villagers of Lingampally in Munipally mandal have raised concerns over alleged illegal dumping of chemical waste near educational institutions and agricultural fields. They claim the waste causes foul odours, affects students and flows into farmland during rains, prompting demands for official action.

Sangareddy: The indiscriminate dumping of chemical waste was causing a great inconvenience to both the villagers of Lingampally and students of Residential Junior College and School. Some unidentified chemical company leased a piece of land close to NH-65 in Lingampally village in Munipally mandal, where they had started dumping the waste for the last few months.

Since the place is located close to the two educational institutions and amid the agricultural fields, the locals have raised an alarm with the staff posted at the dump yard and the drivers of the vehicles that were coming to the place.

However, they refused to shift the waste from the place. Even though they lodged a complaint with the panchayat secretary, the villagers complained that he had not initiated any action against them so far. Ward member of Lingampally Anasuya, who owns land close to the dump yard, accused that the staff had even tried to attack them when they questioned them over the illegal dumping. The staff and students of residential institutions complained that hostel inmates have taken ill multiple times during the past few months as the foul smell was enveloping the area.

Even though there were no chemical companies in Lingampally and surrounding areas, the villagers said that the waste was being brought in drums from somewhere else. The waste not only emanates a foul smell, but it is also flowing into the agricultural fields whenever it rains in the area.

Local leader Ramesh Yadav urged the pollution control board and other concerned department officials to visit Lingampally immediately and initiate action against the management. He demanded the officials to ensure the waste is shifted from the place permanently.
