Hyderabad: Apparently worried about the mounting public criticism of inaction in the POCSO case against Bandi Sai Bageerath, son of Union Minister Bandi Sanjay, the Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy directed the State police to form a special team to take up investigation into the case.
The Chief Minister sought an explanation from the DGP CV Anand about the delay in initiating investigation into the case registered in Pet Basheerabad police station on May 8. He questioned the DGP as to why no action was taken so far even after registration of an FIR in the case.
A communique from the CMO said on Monday that the DGP explained to him that the entire police force had been occupied with security arrangements in light of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Hyderabad.
Interestingly, former IPS officer and BRS leader RS Praveen Kumar made a pointed request to the state police to depute any of the senior IPS officers who were not involved with the PM security arrangements to probe the case.
The Monday’s communication from the CMO about DGP being directed to constitute a special team is the first official mention of the case, as so far neither any police officers of Cyberabad commissionerate nor the DGP went on record about the case, though the counter case registered by Bandi Sai Bageerath in Karimnagar police station was leaked to the media.
