Hyderabad: Telangana has achieved a milestone in its fight against Covid-19 by completing administration of two crore Covid doses on Wednesday. The vaccination included individuals in the State who have received at least one dose. Overall, roughly 2.87 crore individuals in Telangana are above 18 years of age and are eligible to receive the vaccine. So far, two crore individuals of these have received at least one dose.

“This is a proud moment because we have achieved a significant milestone in the vaccination programme against Covid in Telangana. The milestone is very important because we administered the first one crore vaccines in 168 days and the next one crore in just 78 days,” Director of Public Health (DPH) Dr G Srinivasa Rao said on Wednesday.

As on Tuesday evening, 1,44,90,525 individuals, which includes all categories and age-groups including healthcare workers, frontline workers, persons aged between 18 and 44 and those above 44, in Telangana had received the first dose while 55,05,738 persons had received both the first and second dose.

So far, 76,31,726 individuals between the age group of 18 years and 44 years have received the first dose while 17,58,155 were administered with the second dose. Similarly, a total of 62,37,867 persons aged over 44 have received the first dose while 32,92,810 have completed the Covid vaccine schedule by receiving the second dose. According to the COWIN dashboard, so far Telangana has received 1,74,09,728 Covid doses with a vaccination wastage of 3 per cent.

The Covid vaccination drive was launched on January 16, 2021, and initially, the programme was covering healthcare workers, frontline workers and senior citizens, before the initiative was opened up for individuals above 18 years from May 1.

“Apart from the commitment of the last level field functionary of our department, the support from line departments, the backup we received from the highest level of political and administrative wings, enthusiastic participation of public for vaccination at government and private Covid vaccination centres has made this possible,” Dr Rao added.
