KARIMNAGAR: Three Town police on Monday arrested one Dakshan Murthy alias Dakshinamurthy, a compounder, for allegedly raping a woman patient in a private hospital here.

Producing the accused before the media on Tuesday, Commissioner of Police Gaush Alam detailed the case.

The woman, who was suffering from fever, had been admitted to Deepika Hospital in Karimnagar on September 6. Dakshinamurthy, working as a compounder and OT technician, allegedly raped her after administering a sedative injection.

The victim later informed her father, who lodged a complaint with Three Town police. Based on the complaint, a case was registered under Section 64(2)(e) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and an investigation was launched.

Following an inquiry in the hospital, the police arrested the accused on Monday.

A native of Laxmidevi village, Sironcha taluq in Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra, Dakshinamurthy had migrated to Karimnagar four years ago after completing his intermediate. He initially worked as a ward boy in Orchid Hospital and later as a male nurse in Harini Hospital, but was removed after repeatedly attending duties in an inebriated condition.

He later returned to Karimnagar after a brief stay in his native place and joined Deepika Hospital as a compounder. Police said he was addicted to pornography and liquor.
