Hyderabad: Like other deadlines it had set for itself, the Congress government in the State is likely to miss the caste census survey deadline as well. The caste census was launched on November 6 and the target was to complete the survey and upload the collected data online by November 30, that is, Saturday.

With just a day left for the exercise to be completed, the possibilities of completing the task before the deadline appear bleak. Further, not all households are sharing all the details asked for by the enumerators. At many places, whatever little information people are ready to share is being uploaded online, reflecting the effectiveness of the survey.

Interestingly, while the survey and uploading the data online is being taken up at brisk pace in rural areas, the same pace is missing in urban areas. At many places, the exercise is lagging behind schedule. More so, at many places even in the rural areas, households are refraining from sharing all the details sought by the enumerators.

Though basic details like extent of land owned, loans raised, caste and family members details were being shared, a majority of people are desisting from sharing other details, including cattle owned, income, political positions worked in the past etc, said an MPDO.

“We are trying to convince the people but not insisting on all the details. We are registering whatever information is shared by the households. At many places, the forms have incomplete information and the same is being uploaded online,” the MPDO said.

In urban areas, majority of the households are desisting from sharing the details. Save for basic details like Aadhaar numbers, family members, rest of the details, including caste details, income etc are not being shared by many.

Not to mention about the plight of teachers, who are working as enumerators. Irrespective of rural and urban limits, at many places, people are questioning them about the implementation of six guarantees and about the status of Praja Palana applications that were collected in December last.

According to officials, till Thursday, 39,51,469 households’ data had been uploaded online and information from 6,59,839 households was yet to be collected. Among the districts, Mulugu district was leading in uploading the data online with 82.5 percent, followed by Yadadri Bhongir, which completed 74.2 percent and Siddipet with 64.5 percent.

In GHMC limits, 81.5 percent survey was completed and 4,54,240 households are still to be covered.

Local body polls

Meanwhile, speculation is rife that Gram Panchayat election notification might be issued during Sankranthi and the elections are likely to be held in February. It is also learnt that the ballot voting would be adopted for the elections, which are likely to be conducted in three phases.

Though, there is a regulation that people with more than two children are not permitted to contest the elections, there is speculation that this time people with more than two children would also be permitted to contest. Further, efforts are also being made to ensure that there are five gram panchayats (MPTC) under each mandal.

These proposals are likely to be discussed during the next assembly session, which is expected to commence from December 9.
