Peddapalli: Farmers’ leader and former sarpanch Vanthadupula Nagaraju were taken into preventive custody on Monday after farmers planned to submit a representation to district officials at the Prajavani programme asking for implementation of the crop loan waiver.
Out of 300 farmers, not a single farmer from Mogilipeta of Mallapur mandal has got the crop loan waived so far. Recently, Nagaraju organised a special camp in the village wherein more than 100 ryots submitted their applications along with the required documents.
The farmers had decided to submit all the applications to the district administration during Prajavani on Monday. However, police took Nagaraju into preventive custody and shifted him to the police station.
Speaking to the media, Nagaraju made it clear that there was no question of going back on farmers’ problems. He said illegal arrests would not deter them. The agitation would continue till each and every farmer got crop loan waiver benefit, he said.
Former sarpanches of various villages, BRS leaders and farmers met Nagaraju in the police station and extended their support.
