Telangana Council Chairman hails Kanti Velugu scheme
The Telangana Legislative Council highlighted the success of the “Kanti Velugu” programme, a free eye-screening initiative introduced during the BRS regime. Council Chairman Gutha Sukhender Reddy praised the scheme for its rural outreach, noting that spectacles were distributed free of cost and delivered to homes when not immediately available.
Hyderabad: Legislative Council Chairman Gutha Sukhender Reddy lauded “Kanti Velugu”, a free eye-screening programme that was introduced during the BRS government regime in the State.
During the question hour in the Legislative Council on Saturday, BRS MLC Vanteru Yadava Reddy spoke about “Kanti Velugu”. Stressing the benefits for people, especially those in rural areas, he urged the State government to continue the scheme.
Recalling the benefits extended under the programme, Council Chairman Gutha Sukhender Reddy said Kanti Velugu camps were organised and spectacles were provided free to the people.
In case the eyeglasses were not readily available, they were delivered to the people’s homes. Eye surgeries were not performed in the camps as a precautionary measure due to concerns about potential infections, the Council Chairman said in a video, which is circulating on social media.
