Warangal Rural: A couple committed suicide by consuming pesticide in a span of about two hours at Parkal town in the district on Thursday night. The deceased were identified as Tallapelli Sandhyarani (45) and Keshava Swamy (50) of Hanamkonda.

According to sources, they came to Parkal on Thursday to participate in ‘mass prayers’ organised at a church in an attempt to get rid of their financial and health problems. Sandhyarani consumed the pesticide first near the church in an attempt to end her life as she was unable to cope with the pressures of life, and was rushed to a hospital in Parkal town.

Meanwhile, Keshava Swamy, who was outside the church, learned about the suicide attempt by his wife and rushed to the hospital. On coming to know that his wife had already succumbed to the pesticide, he too gulped down the pesticide left in the bottle right before the people who brought his wife to the hospital. The people present there tried to shift him to MGM hospital for treatment, but he died near Gudeppadu village on the way to Warangal city.

Keshava Swamy and Sandhyarani are survived by a son and daughter. The couple belonged to Ponakalki village in Duggondi mandal. In a video posted on local WhatsApp groups, Keshava Swamy alleged that he was cheated by Pulla Babu, a retired employee of NPDCL, and his friend Valu Naik and Tallapally Venkateshwarlu, to the tune of Rs 12 lakh as he was a middleman between some unemployed youths and the trio.

“They promised me to get government jobs and collected the cash from the youths with me as the middleman. But they failed to get jobs. They did not return the money either. The Police Commissioner, Warangal, and DGP should investigate the matter,” Keshava Swamy said in the post. He earlier worked with the film industry in Hyderabad as a junior artiste. He alleged that Pulla Babu and two others had also threatened his second wife of dire consequences if he asked for money. Parkal police registered a case and took up investigations.
