Hyderabad: The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) has issued an advisory warning citizens against fake online shopping offers and fraudulent sale campaigns that are increasingly being used by cybercriminals to cheat unsuspecting buyers.
According to the advisory issued by TGCSB Director Shikha Goel, fraudsters are creating fake e-commerce websites, impersonating well-known shopping brands, and circulating misleading advertisements through social media, WhatsApp, SMS, Telegram, and email. “These scams typically lure consumers with unrealistic discounts, flash sales, and clearance offers before demanding advance payments through UPI, QR codes, or direct bank transfers,” she said.
The bureau urged shoppers to purchase only through trusted online platforms, verify website URLs, check seller ratings and reviews, and avoid clicking on unsolicited shopping links.
It also advised against making payments outside official checkout systems or to unknown bank accounts and UPI IDs.
Citizens who fall victim to such frauds have been advised to immediately inform their bank, preserve transaction records and screenshots, call the National Cybercrime Helpline at 1930, and file a complaint through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal.
