Hyderabad: Telangana State Drug Control Administration (DCA) conducted raids at a medical shop in Errapadh village, Noothanakal mandal, Suryapet district, which was operating illegally without drug license and seized 30 varieties of medicines.

The DCA in a press release on Wednesday informed that the unlicensed shop was being run by Jalagam Venkteshwarlu and medicines worth Rs 22, 000 including antibiotics, analgesics etc were seized.

In a separate raid at a clinic that was being run by a quack Akula Gopinath at Deshmukhi village, Boodhan Pochampally mandal, Yadadri-Bhuvangiri district, the DCA officials seized medicines worth Rs 38, 382. During the course of the raids, the DCA officials seized higher generation of antibiotics including Cefixime, Cefpodoxime, Ofloxacin, Ciprofloxacin, Doxycycline, Amoxicillin and Potassium Clavulanate.

In a separate development, the DCA officials also seized ‘Feromen XT Tablets’ (Ferrous Ascorbate, Folic Acid and Zinc Tablets), which claimed to contain ferrous ascorbate, sold under the guise of food products or nutraceuticals. The product was found to be manufactured by Evertouch Lifecare, Mathura Uttar Pradesh.

Drugs that are falsely manufactured and sold under a food license are not produced in accordance with ‘Good Manufacturing Practices’ (GMPs) and often fail to meet the quality standards prescribed in the Indian Pharmacopoeia (IP). Such products pose serious risks to patients’ health and may have severe implications. Manufacturing and selling ‘drugs’ without a valid ‘drug license’ is punishable under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, with imprisonment for up to five years,” DG, TSDCA, V B Kamalasan Reddy in a press release said.

In a separate raid at Kamareddy district, the DCA teams on Tuesday and Wednesday, the DCA teams seized stocks of Sofrabact Cream, manufactured by Progressive Lifesciences, Haridwar, which was being sold at an MRP of Rs 155 for a 5 gm tube while the ceiling price set by regulatory authorities is Rs 113.6 for a 5 gram tube i.e. the company was charging Rs 41.37 extra on one 5 gm tube.
