Telangana: DCA reports 93 substandard drugs between January and August

Hyderabad: The drug testing laboratory of Drug Control Administration, Telangana, has reported a total of 93 Not of Standard Quality (NSQ) substandard drugs between January and August.
In the month of September alone, the lab reported 14 NSQ drugs, which include antibiotics, antiulcer drugs, anti-allergics and haematinics.
According to DG, TSDCA, VB Kamalasan Reddy the drug samples that tested failed in the tests for assay, dissolution, and description, which may render the medicines ineffective in treating diseases.
Adopting a risk-based sampling approach, the DCA issued directions to all field officers, outlining the risk indicators to be considered for collecting samples from the supply chain and manufacturing facilities, which significantly increased the detection of substandard drugs circulating in the market, Kamalasan Reddy said.
