Hyderabad: Telangana has consistently and consciously made efforts towards sustainability across industrial sectors. The State along with several stakeholders- private companies, NGOs and startups have focused on clean technologies, sustainability and recyclability.
Speaking at TiE Sustainability Summit 2021 on Monday, Jayesh Ranjan, principal secretary of Industries & Commerce (I&C) and IT, Government of Telangana said, “We have taken sustainability measures across critical areas. Telangana has revived 85 per cent of the 47,000 water bodies under Mission Kakatiya, helping farmers across the State. We have also been able to make headway in enabling safe drinking water to a wider population. We are planting trees under the Haritha Haram initiative to enhance the green cover.”
He added, “We have seen the contribution of solar going up to 15 per cent over the years, well above the national average. The State has also come up with an electric mobility policy to encourage green public transport. The government has also taken steps to set up the world’s largest industrial cluster for life sciences ‘Pharma City’ with advanced and futuristic technologies that are environment-friendly.”
The foundation of several initiatives taken by the State government over the last seven years has been based on sustainability. The State has developed a deep-rooted innovation ecosystem focused on clean technologies driven by T-Hub, WE Hub, RICH, T-Works and TSIC. Telangana has demonstrated in umpteen domains how sustainability can be achieved.
“Going forward, we are looking at new learning and good practises from Israel in several areas of technologies. We are also looking at emulating oil palm cultivation from Costa Rica,” Ranjan added.
