Molla Swamy sets his bike on fire in front of a bank at Telkapally on Monday.
NAGARKURNOOL: Dejected over him not being selected for Rythu Bharosa assistance, a farmer burnt his two-wheeler in front of a bank at Telkapally here on Monday.
Molla Swamy, a resident of Golagudem village, had approached a public sector bank to get the passbook. Swamy’s mother owns 2.15 acres of land and had secured a loan by pledging the passbook at the bank. After the State government waived crop loans, Swamy approached the bank to get the passbook.
He was informed that a loan amount of Rs 95,000 was waived and that another Rs 13,000 was due. He would have to pay that to get the passbook, according to reports.
Disheartened, Swamy left the bank. If the Rythu Bandhu assistance was extended, bank officials would have returned the passbook, he said. In a fit of rage, he burnt his two-wheeler. After locals informed the police, they reached the spot and doused the flames and took Swamy into custody, the reports said.
