Kumram Bheem Asifabad: Director General of Police M Mahender Reddy on Monday urged the Maoists to lay down their arms and join the mainstream in order to avail medical treatment. He was speaking at a meeting with district police authorities and suggested ways to tackle the activities of the banned outfit here.

Speaking to the media, the DGP stated that many extremists, including top leaders, were struggling to handle Covid and some of them have succumbed to the virus. He assured that the Police Department would extend all help if they quit the outlawed outfit. He further assured that rehabilitation packages would be provided to the extremists once they surrender themselves before cops.

The head of the State police force requested family members of Maoists to motivate the extremists to quit the party. He instructed the police officials to persuade the kin to make Maoists surrender before policemen and to save the lives of their loved ones. He added that scores of ultras died of Covid in the recent past following lack of medical facilities.

The DGP reiterated that the policemen were well-equipped and were ready to thwart the efforts of Maoists to reenter the district which they had left the erstwhile Adilabad district for quite a long time. He stated that the five member-band of the red brigade, led by Mailarepu Adellu alias Bhaskar, state committee member, tried to enter the district in the past, but policemen could successfully send the extremists back to their original places.

Mahender Reddy handed over cash rewards to 250 policemen who took part in anti-Maoist operations in the district. He further said that stringent action would be initiated against the traders of spurious seed as the government was determined to eradicate the menace. He warned that Preventive Detention Acts would be invoked against habitual offenders.

North Zone Inspector General Nagi Reddy, IG (Intelligence) Prabhakar, Additional DGP (Greyhounds) Srinivas Reddy, Ramagundam Commissioner of Police Satyanarayana, Mancherial DCP Uday Kumar, Adilabad in-charge Superintendent of Police Rajesh Chandra, his counterpart of Nirmal Ch Praveen Kumar, Kumram Bheem Asifabad ASPs Sudheendra and Bala Swamy were present.
