Hyderabad: Medical associations representing junior doctors and senior residents from Telangana, including Healthcare Reforms Doctors Association (HRDA), T-JUDA (Telangana Junior Doctors Association) and T-SRDA (Telangana Senior Residents Association), on Thursday condemned the police detention of Foreign Medical Graduate (FMG) interns who were peacefully protesting for their stipends and fair treatment.
The associations criticised the detention of young doctors who are demanding parity, pointing out that many FMG interns receive a meagre Rs 5,000 monthly stipend despite carrying workloads equal to their peers and supporting peripheral government healthcare institutions.
Terming peaceful protest a fundamental democratic right, the associations maintained that intimidation and police action cannot replace dialogue and accountability.
Demanding the immediate release of all detained interns without any registered cases, the doctors’ bodies urged authorities to initiate constructive discussions. The HRDA, TUJDA and TSRDA said that FMGs and Indian Medical Graduates form a single fraternity, and called for an immediate resolution to ensure equal pay, dignity, and justice for all medical interns in the State.
