Hyderabad: Following objections raised on certain objectionable content in Class 8 social studies question bank, the Directorate of School Education (DSE) on Sunday said it would initiate appropriate action against the publisher.
The SIO Telangana on Saturday had demanded action against publishers stating that the question bank for students had ‘discriminatory and hateful content which destroys the harmony, unity and integrity of the society’. “Class 8, Social Studies-Real life beyond Textbook E/M TS is creating and propagating stereotypical, hateful & Islamophobic view towards Muslim community,” the SIO had said in a statement.
In a press release today, the DSE said a news item was carried in some newspapers and went viral on some social media regarding some objectionable photo in the social studies textbook of Class 8.
“In this connection, it is clarified that no such objectionable photograph is included in the government prescribed textbook of social studies in the lesson relating to 11 (B) National Movement-The last phase 1919-1947,” the DSE said adding that the objectionable photograph was used in the question bank prepared and published by a private publication. “Appropriate action will be initiated against the publishers responsible for this,” the DSE assured.
