Telangana EAGLE Force traces 60 alleged hydroponic ganja transporters

Telangana EAGLE Force has traced 60 persons in Maharashtra and Gujarat allegedly linked to a Thailand-India hydroponic ganja supply chain. Officials served them notices under the NDPS Act while investigating suppliers, transporters, distributors, recipients and financial transactions connected to the network.

HYDERABAD: The Telangana EAGLE Force has traced 60 persons in Maharashtra and Gujarat who were allegedly acting as transporters in the Thailand-India hydroponic ganja supply chain and served notices on them under Section 67 of the NDPS Act.

The case came to light on April 7 when Customs officials at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Shamshabad, intercepted international passenger Sodha Mohsin Bahadur Bhai after his arrival from Bangkok and recovered 13.2 kg of hydroponic ganja from his checked-in baggage.

During the follow-up investigation, EAGLE Force officials identified another suspect, Harshad Mansukh Bhai Prajapathi. “Acting on the leads, teams apprehended Sandeep Jayprakash Vaswani and Prajapathi near BHEL Junction, Ramachandrapuram, on April 8 and seized another 12.739 kg of hydroponic ganja from their possession,” said Sandeep Shandilya, Director, EAGLE Force.

As the investigation progressed, officials identified around 96 persons allegedly connected with the organised syndicate involved in procuring, transporting, distributing and circulating hydroponic ganja brought from Thailand to different cities in India.

Fifteen special teams were subsequently deployed across different parts of the country to trace persons allegedly involved in the transportation network. “The special teams identified 60 transporters in Maharashtra and Gujarat and served them notices under Section 67 of the NDPS Act as part of the ongoing probe,” the official added.

Officials are now examining the Thailand-based suppliers, domestic transport routes, distributors, intended recipients, customer networks, financial transactions and logistical facilitators.
