Telangana: Elections announced for six MLC seats under MLAs quota

In the schedule released on Sunday, the ECI stated that it had reassessed the situation in both the States and decided to go ahead with the polling.

Hyderabad: The Election Commission of India on Sunday released the schedule to hold biennial elections to the State Legislative Councils of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh under the MLA’s quota on November 29. These elections scheduled to be held in May, were postponed due to the second wave of Covid-19 pandemic.

In the schedule released on Sunday, the ECI stated that it had reassessed the situation in both the States and decided to go ahead with the polling. Accordingly, the notification for the election will be released November 9 and nominations also will be accepted from the same day. The last day for submission of nominations is November 16. The scrutiny of nominations will be held on November 17, while the last date for withdrawal of candidatures is November 22.


The polling will be held from 9 am to 4 pm on November 29, followed by counting of votes from 5 pm onwards. The results will be announced on the same day and the entire polling process will be completed on or before December 1. The elections will be held in strict adherence to Covid-19 protocol.

According to an official release from the ECI, the term of six members of Telangana State Legislative Council and three members of Andhra Pradesh State Legislative Council expired on June 3 and May 31 respectively. In Telangana, the six MLCs whose term ended on June 3 this year are, the Council former Chairman Gutha Sukhender Reddy, Deputy Chairman Neti Vidyasagar, Kadiyam Srihari, Akula Lalitha and Bodakunti Venkateshwarlu, all from the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi.
