Khammam: Telangana has been progressing under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, stated Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar.
The State has emerged as a model for development in the nation with all round growth of people through implementation of unique welfare and development schemes. The Chief Minister has been overcoming many challenges in leading Telangana towards progress, he said.
The minister who extended wishes to the people on the occasion of the 73rd Republic Day in a statement here on Wednesday hoped that in line with the spirit of the Constitution everyone would move forward with the aim of preserving democracy. Ajay Kumar noted that erstwhile Khammam district was on the path of development and clean environment and greenery was seen in all the villages and towns. Under Palle Pragathi dumping yards, Vaikunta dhamams and nurseries have been set up in 584 gram panchayats in the district.
As part of the Employment Guarantee Scheme Rs 11.84 crore spent on construction of soak pits , Rs 3.33 crore for Vaikunta dhamamas and Rs 1.39 crore for dumping yards. The 14th Finance Commission and the State Finance Commission released Rs 87.42 crore for the development of gram panchayats. He said Rs 400 crore was spent on development works in Khammam city so far. Works were underway with Rs 4 crore for beautification of Lakaram tank, Rs 70 crore for Gollapadu channel modernisation and Rs 14 crore for construction of a new Municipal Corporation building.
Under the Mission Bhagiratha scheme, Rs. 229 crore worth works were under progress and safe drinking water was being supplied to 84,000 households in the city. The city was lit up with 17, 043 LED lights, and the District Library was modernised at a cost of Rs 73.50 lakh, Ajay Kumar said. With an objective of providing shelter to the homeless poor around 1,210 double bedroom houses were built at Tekulapally in the city and were handed over to beneficiaries. Works were going on at a cost of Rs 50 crore to improve sanitation in the city, Ajay Kumar said.
