Hyderabad: In a move to bring transparency besides curbing exorbitant fee charges for management seats in the private engineering colleges in the State, the Telangana Council of Higher Education (TGCHE) has decided to centralise the admission process for these seats, effective next academic year.

Just like the engineering convener quota admissions via Telangana Engineering, Agriculture and Pharmacy Common Entrance Test (TG EAPCET), admissions to management quota will be conducted through web-based counselling, replacing the current system where each college holds its own admissions.

For several years, aspirants and student organisations have been voicing their concerns over the exorbitant fee being charged by the private engineering colleges for management quota seats. There have been issues with regards to merit not being allowed by these colleges for admissions.

To address this long pending issue, the TGCHE will shortly hold a consultation meeting with colleges to discuss the online admission process, along with fee structure.
According to sources, three proposals have been mooted with regards to fee fixation for management quota seats. The first proposal suggests applying the existing convener quota seat fee to the management seats as well.

The second proposal will allow colleges to charge up to 1.5 times the fee of the convener quota seats. Currently, this system is being followed for management quota admissions in the private medical and dental colleges in the State.

The third proposal, involves increasing the management quota seats fee by three times of convener quota from the next year. For instance, if a convener quota seat in a private engineering college is of Rs.1 lakh per annum, the management seat will be Rs.3 lakh.

“The GO 66 issued in the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh State allows the TGCHE to hold online admissions for management quota seats and the same has been decided. As per this GO 66, there is uniform fee for convener and management quota seats,” said a senior official.

Currently, 70 per cent of the seats in the private engineering colleges are filled up via the TG EAPCET by the TGCHE. The remaining 30 per cent of seats are filled by the colleges’ management by advertising in the newspapers.
