Hyderabad: The Prohibition and Excise department has received Rs.1,357 crore as non-refundable application fee collected from applicants for allotting liquor shops in the State.

In 2019, the department got Rs.975 crore. It received as many as 67,849 applications for 2,620 liquor shops. On an average, 26 applications were received for each shop. The shops will be allotted after conducting a draw of lots on Saturday in the presence of the district Collector concerned.

Officials said the highest number of applications was received in Khammam and Nalgonda excise districts compared to other districts. As many as 6,084 applications were received for 122 notified shops in Khammam while 4,027 applications for 155 shops in Nalgonda district.

For 80 shops in Hyderabad, the department has received 1,503 applications and for 99 shops in Secunderabad, it received 1,519 applications.

The department has received 4,102 applications for 134 shops in Saroornagar excise district. A shop in Meerpet has received 55 applications, which is highest in Saroornagar excise district while another shop in Mansoorabad has received only 14 applications, which is lowest.

The department is also trying to find out the reasons for getting fewer applications for some shops. Reviewing the arrangements being made for the smooth conduct of draw of lots at Saroornagar indoor stadium here on Friday, Ranga Reddy district Collector Amoy Kumar said the applicants would be allowed into the stadium with an entry pass only.

“All applicants should strictly adhere to the Covid safety protocols while attending to the draw of lots at the stadium from 11 am,” he said.
