Telangana: Farmers block NH-161 over delay in paddy procurement in Medak

Say they are finding it difficult to protect the stocks due to continuous rains; protest results in traffic jam on the national highway

Medak: Paddy farmers of Gadi Peddapur in Alladurg mandal blocked the busy NH-161 over delay in paddy procurement and shifting of the paddy to rice mills on Thursday.

The protest resulted in a traffic jam on the national highway as the farmers blocked traffic for over an hour. The farmers said they were finding it difficult to protect the paddy as the area was witnessing rains every day.

Inspector Renuka Reddy tried to convince the farmers to withdraw the protest and facilitated a discussion with Civil Supplies and other department officials who assured to complete the procurement within a week.

The farmers withdrew their protest after the assurance.
