Hyderabad: The filing of nominations commenced on Tuesday after the notification was released for the biennial election for Telangana State Legislative Council from two Graduates constituencies of Mahabubnagar-Rangareddy-Hyderabad and Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda. Congress candidate K Chinna Reddy and a couple of independent candidates filed their nominations on the first day. The polling is scheduled on March 14 from 8 am to 4 pm, while counting of votes will be taken up on March 17.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) released the schedule for the elections last week and the Returning Officers of the two Graduates constituencies released the notifications on Tuesday. The last date for filing nominations is February 23. Scrutiny of nominations will be held on February 24 while the last date for withdrawal of candidature is February 26.
The elections were mandated as the tenure of sitting MLCs – N Ramachandra Rao (Mahabubnagar-Rangareddy-Hyderabad) and Palla Rajeshwar Reddy (Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda) is coming to an end on March 29. Both Ramachandra Rao from BJP and Rajeshwar Reddy from TRS are seeking re-election from their respective constituencies.
