Khammam: A former sarpanch and BRS Mudigonda mandal committee former president, Pamu Silvaraju, was reportedly kidnapped by unidentified assailants on Wednesday.
According to family members, Silvaraju went for a morning walk and failed to return home even after a long time. When the anxious family members enquired about his whereabouts, it was found that someone had taken him away in a car at an Edgah at Pandregupalli village in the mandal.
The locals stated that they had not paid much attention to the incident at the time, assuming that the occupants of the car were likely to be acquaintances of Silvaraju. His wife, Swarnalatha, is the sarpanch of Pandregupalli village.
Meanwhile, Silvaraju was said to have called his family from a new mobile number in the afternoon and told his children that he was going to Hyderabad for work and would return by evening.
He was engaged in real estate business and land disputes might have led to his kidnapping, the villagers suspected. He also served as Nelakondapalli agricultural market committee director in the past.
The sarpanch’s family members have lodged a complaint with Mudigonda police regarding the incident. The police have registered a case, visited the scene of the crime and launched an investigation into the incident.
The CI, Murali, said three teams have been formed to trace out Silvaraju. Tension prevailed for some time at Mudigonda police station as the villagers and the family members of the abducted person gathered in large numbers protesting against his kidnapping.
