Medak: Four persons, who went for fishing in the middle of river Manjira on Tuesday night, were stranded in river Manjira at Pothamsettipally village of Kulcharam Mandal in Medak district.

Since the water flow has receded in the river on Tuesday, the four men – Dumpala Yellam, Sadula Yadagiri, Skylab and Nagaraju – went for fishing on Tuesday night. The first two are residents of Kistapur village of Kulcharam Mandal and the others are natives of Medak town. As the water level increased in the river all of sudden, they climbed onto a rock to save themselves and called their friends over phone, who in turn alerted the the Police. Meanwhile, the Medak Police and district administration plunged into action to rescue them.

As the Singur project has been receiving over 11,000 cusecs of water, the irrigation authorities have lifted one gate to discharge an equal amount of water downstream. These four persons were stranded 50-km downstream the Singur and a couple of kilometers upstream of Ghanpur anicut.
