Nirmal: A rather silent Adelli village came alive following the presence of the devotees at the two-day long annual Ganganeella jatara which began on a colorful note at Sri Pochamma temple at Adelli village in Sarangapur mandal on Saturday.

As part of the festivities, sacred jewelry of the deity was purified by water of Godavari at Sangvi village by taking them ceremoniously in a procession which passes through Adelli, Sarangapur, Yakarpalli, Vanjar, Pyaramur, Kadili, Mategaon, Dilawarpur and Kanjiri villages.

The jewelry was then brought back to the temple. The ritual is an important event of the religious affair.

Around 10,000 devotees from several parts of Nirmal, Adilabad and Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Warangal districts and neighboring Maharashtra visited the temple and offered special prayers. Some devotees had also arrived by bullock carts.

The devotees sacrifice chickens and goats as a token of gratitude for fulfilling their wishes and for the well-being of their family members.

Elaborate arrangements were made for smooth conduct of the fair. Basic amenities such as temporary toilets, lighting, first aid centres, and parking lots were created.

Policemen were deployed at the temple to prevent untoward incidents. Nirmal DSP Ganga Reddy was supervising the bandobust.

TGSRTC-Nirmal depot is operating special buses to Adelli from Nirmal and Bhainsa towns for the convenience of the devotees on Saturday and Sunday. Adelli is situated 20 kilometers away from Nirmal district headquarters. One can reach the village by taking old NH-7. They can find it after crossing Sarangapur mandal centre.
