Karimnagar: BC welfare and Civil Supplies minister Gangula Kamalakar has invited the BJP workers and all other politicial party workers to join in the demonstrations to be organised by the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) in all assembly constituencies to pressurise the Union Government to procure paddy and save the farmers in Telangana.
The minister said the TRS president and Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao had called for organising the demonstrations in front of collectorates on Friday. In Karimnagar district, the dharns would be organised at collector offices in Gangadhara of Choppadandi constituency, Manakondur and in front of RDO office in Huzurabad. The protests will be held from 10 am to 1 pm. The minister held a meeting with MLAs and other public representatives and TRS constituency in-charges to discuss arrangements here on Wednesday.
Later, speaking to reporters, Kamalakar appealed to TRS activists and farmers to take part in the agitation in a big way and make the programme a big success. Though they were ruling in the state, they had to take an agitation path to protect the interests of farmers since the centre was creating troubles. They were left with no option but to launch an agitation, he said.
Farming community in the state were gradually getting benefits with the implementation of various welfare schemes such as 24 hours free current, Kaleshwaram water, Rythu Bandhu, Rythu Bima and others. Unable to digest it, the union government was deliberately creating troubles for farmers by denying the procurement of paddy. Instead of convincing the center, both BJP state president Bandi Sanjay Kumar and the union minister G Kishan Reddy were making different statements. So, the central government should clarify its stand on the issue, the minister said and wanted Sanjay and Kishan Reddy to stage a dharna in front of the union minister Piyush Goyal’s residence.
When he and Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao met union minister Piyush Goyal in the month of September, the latter had refused to procure boiled rice from the state on the pretext that the center has enough stocks for four years. Though the state government procured 50 lakh metric tons by spending Rs 20,000 crore, the union minister refused to procure not more than 20 lakh metric tons.
Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao had also questioned the center for denying procurement after collecting GST from the state. While the union minister issued a letter explaining the reasons for denial of paddy procurement, unfortunately, the BJP state president was encouraging the farmers to cultivate paddy, the Minister said and demanded Sanjay to bring written assurance from the central government.
He would felicitate Sanjay and Kishan Reddy if they convince the central government for paddy procurement. MLAs Rasamai Balkishan and Sunke Ravishankar, Karimnagar Mayor Y Sunil Rao and others participated in the programme.
