Telangana gears up for Khelo India Youth Games 2026 from December 11

Telangana Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju reviewed preparations for the Khelo India Youth Games 2026, scheduled from December 11 to 22. Around 6,050 athletes are expected to participate across 27 disciplines at venues in Hyderabad and five other districts

Hyderabad: Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju has directed all departments to work in close coordination to ensure the successful conduct of the Khelo India Youth Games 2026, scheduled to be held in Telangana from December 11 to 22.

A high-level review meeting on preparations for the Games was held at the Dr B R Ambedkar Telangana State Secretariat on Friday. The meeting was attended by Special Chief Secretary Jayesh Ranjan, SATG VC and MD Dr A Sonibala Devi, IFS, Commissioner of Collegiate and Technical Education Devasena, GHMC Commissioner R V Karnan, IT Department Joint Secretary Anudeep Durishetty, TGDISCOM MD Musharraf Ali Faruqui, HMDA Commissioner Sarfaraz Ahmad and other senior officials.

Jaju said the Khelo India Youth Games would be hosted not only in Hyderabad but also in Hanamkonda, Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Mahabubnagar and Khammam districts. He said the Games, meant for athletes below 18 years of age, are among the country’s major sporting events after the National Games.

Around 6,050 athletes from across the country are expected to participate in the event, which will feature 27 sporting disciplines, including 14 individual sports, six team sports and other events across multiple categories, Jaju said.

The State Government has constituted an 18-member high-level Organising Committee, with the Chief Minister as chairman and the Sports Minister as co-chairman, to oversee the conduct of the Games. An Executive Committee comprising 28 senior officials and 18 specialised committees have also been formed to coordinate various aspects of planning and execution.

Jaju emphasised that all departments must work collectively to ensure seamless arrangements and make the Khelo India Youth Games a success, showcasing Telangana’s capability to host major national sporting events.
