Telangana gets 3,670 PG medical seats for 2026-27

The National Medical Commission has released the college-wise seat matrix for Telangana, offering 3,670 PG medical seats for 2026-27. Government colleges account for nearly 1,470 seats and private colleges 2,200, with admissions through AIQ and State Quota counselling.

Hyderabad: A total of 3,670 postgraduate (PG) medical seats in government and private medical colleges of Telangana are up for grabs following the release of the college-wise seat matrix by the National Medical Commission (NMC) for the academic year 2026-27.

The seats in the government sector account for nearly 1,470 seats, with a majority being offered by Osmania Medical College, Gandhi Medical College and Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) in Hyderabad, and Kakatiya Medical College in Warangal. Private medical colleges now have 2,200 seats spread across more than two dozen teaching hospitals.

Eligible candidates who qualify through the NEET PG examination will have to seek admission through two counselling processes, which include the All India Quota (AIQ) of 50 per cent of government seats, administered through the Central Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), while the State Quota will be managed locally by the Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences (KNRUHS).

The notification reiterated a regulatory warning to participating colleges, making it clear that admissions exceeding the officially approved matrix limits will attract heavy penalties under the NMC Act, 2019. Candidates were advised to verify institutional codes and branch specialisations on the official portal before proceeding with choice-filling for the upcoming admission cycles.
