Hyderabad: Seldom would one have come across such concerted and action-packed mass initiatives being taken by any government at one time as is being done now in Telangana. The three flagship programmes — Pattana Pragathi, Palle Pragathi and Haritha Haram — clubbed together this year, took off to an enthusiastic start on Thursday with Ministers, District Collectors, elected representatives and officials participating in joint programmes in their respective areas.

What is fascinating is that the three programmes, aimed at overall and sustained development of both urban and rural areas, will at once address several issues, including environmental, green cover, civic, hygienic and health, and more importantly bring people together for a common cause.

As MA&UD Minister remarked: “Programmes such as Haritha Haram are not aimed at deriving any political mileage but ensuring increase in the State’s green cover that will provide a safe environment to future generations and save the planet.”

Such has been the impact of the various initiatives launched by the TRS government in the past seven years that various governments, the Centre included, have been replicating them in their States and across the country. “After Telangana launched Mission Bhagiratha to provide safe drinking water to every household in the State, the Union government came up with the Jal Jeevan Mission. Impressed by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s Rythu Bandhu programme, the Centre is now implementing Pradhan Mantri Kisan Yojana, benefitting nearly 16 crore farmers. And the latest in the list of programmes being planned by the Centre is “Nagar Van,” inspired by Telangana government’s urban forest parks development programme,” the Minister pointed out, addressing a gathering after the launch of Amberpet Kalan Urban Forest Park.

During the 10-day intense drive covering all cities, towns and villages across the State, the focus will be on sanitation, infrastructure facilities — including roads and that of health — greenery, construction and completion of vaikuntadhamans in villages, dumping yards and electricity problems, among others. The highlight of the first day’s programme was inauguration of 2BHK houses, Rythu Vedikas and Palle Prakruthivanams apart from starting other developmental activities in villages. The entire government machinery and elected representatives in all the districts took part in the programme.

At a high-level day-long meeting convened with District Collectors on Saturday, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao set goals for officials for the successful implementation of the programmes.

Participating in Palle Pragathi at Sirigipuram in Maheswaram mandal in Ranga Reddy along with Education Minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy, Panchayat Raj Minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao said everyone, cutting across party affiliations, should play an active role in the programme. “It’s an opportunity to do something and give back to villages where we were born and brought up,” he said.

Since September 2019, Rs 6,500 crore has been sanctioned to take up various developmental works in villages, he said, adding that there was no dearth of funds for developmental activities in gram panchayats.

“We will take up developmental works worth Rs 59.30 lakh in Sirigipuram,” Dayakar Rao said, stating that the Chief Minister is striving for the development and welfare of the people for the last seven years. Dayakar Rao said several problems that were pending for years were resolved during the previous three phases of Palle Pragathi.

He said efforts are on to set up 19,472 ‘prakruthivanalu’ at Rs 116 crore. Of them, 19,298 are already in use. The State government had taken up construction of 12,728 ‘Vaikuntadamams’ at Rs 1,554 crore. Of them, 12,386 had already been completed while the remaining would be completed in this phase. Dumping yards were also constructed for disposal of dry and wet waste, he said.

Meanwhile, Finance Minister T Harish Rao took part in the programme at Kukunoorpally in Siddipet while Roads and Buildings Minister Vemula Prashant Reddy in Taadukolu village in Banswada mandal in Kamareddy district.

Assembly Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy interacted with people in Sangojipeta village and inaugurated 30 double-bedroom houses, Rythu Vedika and ‘prakruthivanam’. At Nanijipur village in Shamshabad mandal, Somesh Kumar, while participating in Palle Pragathi, said villages would witness massive development if everyone works hard in coordination with the elected representatives.
