Warangal: The State government, which is striving to promote the historic Warangal city as a prominent education hub in the State after Hyderabad, has allotted 50 acres of land for the construction of a campus of Hyderabad Public School (HPS) Society at Elukurthi village of Dharmasagar mandal in Hanamkonda district at market rate. The government issued a Government Order to this effect.
HPS Society Vice-President Gusti J Noria received the GO copy from Panchayat Raj Minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao at the latter’s official residence in the presence of MP (Rajya Sabha) KR Suresh Reddy in Hyderabad on Monday.
Noria thanked the State government and Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao for allocating the land and assured that the society that has a great legacy will continue to provide quality education with international standards.
It may be recalled here that former Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari had inaugurated Hyderabad Public School (HPS) Warangal branch at Madikonda on the outskirts of the Warangal in August 2016. Since then, the HPS is being run from a rented campus at Madikonda.
Speaking on the occasion, Dayakar Rao said the 7th Nizam of Hyderabad State Mir Osman Ali Khan established the school as Jagirdar College in Begumpet on a sprawling 122 acres.
“The college used to offered education to Nawabs, Jagirdars and children of the elite. However, with the end of the Nizam era, the Hyderabad Public School was renamed in 1951 and was functioning under the auspices of the HPS Society. It has set up branches at Ramanthapur, Kadapa and Warangal. We are happy that Hyderabad Public School, which has a long history of importance, was also set up in Warangal,” he said, adding that Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, eminent cricket analyst Harsha Bhogle, WIPRO CEO Kurien, former Chief Minister Nallari Kiran Kumar Reddy, Tollywood stars Akkineni Nagarjuna, Ramcharan, Rana Daggubati and many other MPs studied at HPS, Begumpet, and hoped that the Warangal branch too would produce such luminaries in the future.
