Telangana: Government appoints Vice-Chancellors for nine State universities

After a long and protracted delay, the State government announced the Vice-Chancellors for nine State universities here on Friday

Hyderabad: Ending the protracted delays and the era of senior bureaucrats as in-charge VCs, the State government on Friday issued orders appointing Vice Chancellors for nine state universities.

Prof. Kumar Molugaram who has been appointed as Vice Chancellor for Osmania University, is a Senior Professor, UCE, OU, with an academic and research career in civil engineering that span 29 years. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from Osmania University, a Master’s degree from JNTU, and a Doctorate from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay.


Prof. Kumar authored over 100 research papers published in international and national journals and supervised more than 90 M.E. dissertations and several Ph.D. theses. He has held numerous significant administrative roles, including Convener of TS-PGECET for 2019 and 2020, and served as the Controller of Examinations at Osmania University for a two-year term.

Prof. Aldas Janaiah who is appointed as Vice Chancellor for Prof. Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University, is a Ph.D (Agri. Economics), PDF (IRRI, Philippines) Professor (Retd), and formerly HoD, Associate Dean, and Board Member, PJTS Agricultural University, Rajendranagar.

He has a wide international and national exposure and served as an Economist at IRRI, The Philippines and Asian Development Bank (deputation) and16 years as a Senior Economist in the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), among several high profile postings.

Prof. Raji Reddy appointed the Vice Chancellor for Sri Konda Laxman Telangana Horticultural University, is Ph.D. in Agrometeorology, Gujarat Agricultural University, Anand, and his professional experience include World Bank consultant for Afghanistan Agromet Services project, Director of Extension-PJTASU and Director of Extension-ANGRAU, among others.

He conducted extensive research using crop and soil models for predicting cropping system responses to climate variability and climate change and evaluating management options for adapting to and mitigating climate change.

The other VCs appointed today included Prof.Pratap Reddy (Kakatiya University, Warangal), Prof. GN Srinivas (Palamuru University, Mahabubnagar), Prof. Umesh Kumar (Satavahana University, Karimnagar), Prof. Nityananda Rao (Telugu University, Hyderabad,) Prof. Altaf Hussain (Mahatma Gandhi University, Nalgonda) and Prof. Yadagiri Rao (Telangana University, Nizamabad).
