Hyderabad: The Telangana government has initiated steps to bring back the mortal remains of Avilala Sudarshan Goud, a native of Hasanabad village in Jagtial mandal, who was killed in a Russian missile strike in Ukraine on September 1.
His remains are expected to reach Hyderabad in the early hours of October 31, nearly two months after his death. The repatriation was delayed by an investigation into the strike and a criminal case registered in connection with it.
The government intervened after his wife, Bhargavi, approached the CM Pravasi Prajavani in Hyderabad seeking assistance. Jagtial MLA Dr. Makunuri Sanjay Kumar and Minister Adluri Lakshman Kumar also made representations to the government.
Ahmad Nadeem, Principal Secretary to the General Administration Department (Political), wrote to India’s Ambassador to Ukraine, Anjani Kumar, on October 24, seeking assistance in facilitating the repatriation, Mandha Bheem Reddy, vice-chairman of the Telangana Government’s NRI Advisory Committee, said.
With air travel restricted in Ukrainian airspace, the coffin will be transported by road to Poland. The remains will then be flown from Warsaw to Amsterdam and onward to Hyderabad. The journey is scheduled to begin on October 29, after which arrangements will be made to transport the remains to Hasanabad for the last rites.
