Hyderabad: The State government has announced the constitution of a single screening committee to oversee the recruitment of assistant professors in universities. The committee, under the aegis of the Telangana Council of Higher Education (TGCHE), will initially screen the certificates of candidates applying for posts across 12 universities.
On Tuesday, the government issued GO 31, amending the earlier GO 21, which outlined the recruitment process for assistant professors in universities. Under the revised system, universities will issue recruitment notifications, while candidates must submit their applications online to the TGCHE.
The recruitment process will comprise three stages. Part A will involve the initial screening of academic qualifications for 50 marks. Part B will assess teaching experience (10 marks), domain knowledge (10 marks), research aptitude (five marks) and book publications (five marks). Part C will consist of an interview carrying 20 marks, taking the total to 100.
However, for subjects that do not require the National Eligibility Test (NET) or State Eligibility Test (SET), including certain engineering disciplines, the assessment will be based on 93 marks instead of 100.
The TGCHE-constituted screening committee will assess academic qualifications and shortlist candidates in a 1:10 ratio, based on the subject and reservation roster, for Part B assessment by the respective universities. For interviews, universities will shortlist candidates in a 1:5 ratio, while final appointments will be made in a 1:1 ratio.
Meanwhile, the Telangana Doctorates Association has objected to the revised GO, alleging that it does not comply with University Grants Commission (UGC) rules. Association president Narender Reddy and vice-president Tirupati Bollam said the provisions were unfair, claiming that the order gave preference to MOOCs, international invitations and research candidates. They also objected to the award of marks for research associate positions.
