Hydrabad: The State government intends to introduce The Core Urban Region (Integrated Governance) Bill, 2026 and replace the GHMC Act, 1955. To this effect, it is seeking public feedback till July 24.

The Government claims the new bill is a comprehensive legislation that will replace the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Act, 1955. The GHMC Act, enacted over seven decades ago, contains several provisions that have become outdated and no longer reflect the needs of a rapidly growing metropolitan region. The new Bill repeals these obsolete provisions and introduces a modern legal framework, officials said.

It facilitates integrated governance of the core urban region through a whole-of-government approach, enabling seamless coordination across departments and agencies. Ease of living for citizens through simplified, citizen-centric service delivery, a vision towards net zero, embedding sustainability and climate responsibility in urban governance, improved public health systems and outcomes across the urban region and ease of doing business, adopting national and global best practices in urban administration, officials stated.

Accordingly, the government is seeking public consultation and the draft Bill is being placed in the public domain for feedback. The draft Bill is published on the websites of the three Municipal Corporations.

Citizens will have to submit their feedback and suggestions online at https://ghmc.gov.in/categoryWiseInsertReport.aspx.

Written representations may be submitted to the Special Chief Secretary, MAUD Department, Secretariat. All feedback mechanisms will remain open for comments and suggestions till July 24.
