Hyderabad: In a surprising reversal of its earlier orders, the State government has decided to retain the external and internal assessments for Class X students from the academic year 2025–26. However, it did not clarify whether grades or marks will be awarded to students.
During the academic year 2024–25, the government had announced a revised structure for the SSC Public Examinations, scrapping the 20 marks allotted for internal assessments. It was decided to hold external exams for a total of 100 marks.
However, a few days after that announcement, the government notified that the existing system—i.e., 80 marks for external and 20 marks for internal exams—would continue for the academic year 2024–25. The exams were conducted accordingly, and students were awarded marks instead of grades. It was then decided to implement the revised scheme from the academic year 2025–26.
Now, two months into the 2025–26 academic year, the government has issued orders keeping its earlier decision to implement the revised scheme under abeyance, while this decision is taken on Monday.
“After careful examination of the matter, the government hereby keeps the earlier orders under abeyance until further orders. Permission is accorded to the Director of School Education, Telangana, Hyderabad, for continuation of 80 marks for external assessments and 20 marks for internal assessment for SSC Public Examinations from the academic year 2025–26,” Education Department Secretary Dr Yogita Rana said in an order.
