Hyderabad: Following complaints from commuters over the high cost of RTC-Metro common passes, the State government has decided to review the fares and is considering making them more affordable.

The common pass for Hyderabad Metro and TGSRTC was launched on October 2. Under the existing pricing structure, the daily common pass costs Rs.400, comprising Rs.300 for the Metro and Rs.100 for RTC services. The monthly common pass is priced at Rs.8,500, with Rs.7,000 allocated to the Metro and Rs.1,500 to RTC services.

However, commuters have complained that the fares are steep and, in some cases, cost more than regular travel charges. Following these complaints, the government has decided to reconsider the pricing structure.

Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar on Monday said a meeting with senior officials would be held soon to review the fares. He said the government was assessing public opinion and ground realities in response to complaints over the high cost of the common passes.

Acknowledging concerns that the fares could place a financial burden on the public, the Minister said the government had decided to reconsider the pricing following suggestions from Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka.

In a statement, Ponnam Prabhakar said the government’s primary objective was to strengthen the public transport system and encourage greater use of RTC and Metro services. He said an appropriate decision would be taken to introduce a common pass that was convenient and affordable, addressed passengers’ needs and offered them financial benefits.
