Hyderabad: The State government was according top priority for the welfare of tribals and accordingly allocated Rs.1,000 crore for laying link roads, Rs.600 crore for constructing gram panchayat buildings and Rs.1700 crore for 2BHK houses in tribal hamlets in the State.

This is in addition to the health and hygiene kits distributed to students of seventh to 12 standard, said Tribal Welfare Minister Satyavathi Rathod after laying foundation stone for construction of gurukul educational building for girls at Somaram village in Medchal-Malkajgiri district on Thursday. The building is constructed at a cost of Rs.4.20 crore.

The government was giving nutrition kits for women suffering from anemia in nine districts. After the formation of the State, the government has constructed 1,000 gurukuls for BCs, SCs, STs and minorities and provided quality food for students.

She said the government was operating 340 ashram schools and panchayat schools in 1400 tribal areas and catering to the needs of the students. As many as 1.30 lakh students were pursuing education in ashram schools across the State and teaching in English medium in these schools would commence from this academic year. It was only in Telangana that education from KG to PG was imparted for students under supervision of Tribal Welfare Department. The Minister further stated the government has allocated Rs.600 crore for construction of gram panchayat buildings in each tanda at a cost of Rs.25 lakh. “We will sanction Rs.2 crore for construction of newly created gram panchayats in Medchal-Malkajgiri district,” she said.

The department would sanction Rs.3 crore for construction of an ashram school in Medchal. The construction of tribal spiritual leader Sant Sevalal Maharaj building would be taken up soon in the land given by Labour Minister C Malla Reddy, who was also present at the event, and added that necessary funds would be released at the earliest. Satyavathi Rathod said the State government was taking necessary steps for putting up electrical poles to supply power to far off places in tandas.
